I've participated in this show for many, many years - - and I just love it! If you're vacationing in the area of Lewes or Rehoboth Beach over the 4th of July, then please come visit this show the day before, Saturday July 3rd. A fantastic art auction benefit is held the evening before, Friday, July 2nd on the very lovely grounds of St. Peter's.

Here's more information from their website: Hosted in charming, coastal Lewes, Delaware (“The First Town in the First State”) St. Peter's Art Show has been a summertime highlight at the Delaware beaches since 1966. The show occurs on the first Saturday of July each year, drawing 140 fine artists and fine craftspeople from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. Wonderful paintings and photographs, exquisite jewelry, masterful carvings, beautiful ceramics and mixed media creations and much more can be found the in the exhibitors’ booths that surround St. Peter’s Square.

More Snow in DC.....

DC's MLK Memorial Library on a snowy Saturday afternoon. I've always been fond of, and strangely comforted by, the sight of this city's only structure designed by the late Chicago modernist architect, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

Over the years, I've borrowed many (heavy) art books, eclectic (shall we say...) music and back in the day - books on tape, from this large library standing at 9th & G Streets. While the library itself is in great need of improvements, it's good to know that in 2007, the District of Columbia Historic Preservation Review Board designated the library to be an official city landmark, protecting it against demolition.

ART BUZZ has grown to become our signature fundraising event for the DC Arts and Humanities Education Collaborative. The Collaborative ensures that underserved DC public school students benefit from the region’s rich array of arts amenities. They provide free transportation and free tickets to storytelling presentations, music, dance, and theater experiences; plus trips to The Kennedy Center and museums. In addition the Collaborative provides teachers with professional development sessions and study materials, adding further incentive to integrate the arts into their daily lessons. In the 2009 school year, more than 32,000 students and teachers will visit cultural institutions through our program. On October 4th, 2009 MPAartfest will transform McLean Central Park into a lively landscape of mini art galleries showcasing and offering for sale the work of a diverse group of 40 juried artists.

Budding artists may create their own works of art at the Children’s ArtTent, coordinated by New Dominion Women's Club. The Gazebo Stage will feature a variety of live performances throughout the day. Visitors can treat themselves to a delicious selection of refreshments from local restaurants.

McLean Central Park is located at the intersection of Dolley Madison Boulevard (Rte. 123) and Old Dominion Drive. Convenient satellite parking will be available at Cardinal Bank located at the intersection of Dolley Madison Boulevard (Rte.123) and Beverly Road. Overflow parking is available at 6862 Elm Street. From both parking locations, free and frequent shuttle bus service will ferry passengers to and from the event site.
