Beginning this Friday, May29th.....I'll be there from 7pm - 1opm on the 7th floor (aka: 7th heaven....)

WHAT: Artomatic, an arts extravaganza featuring hundreds of local artists — visual artists, musicians, dancers, filmmakers, and many more. Nine floors of creativity!

WHEN: May 29 to July 5. Fridays and Saturdays, 12 noon – 1 a.m.; Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays 12 noon – 10 p.m; closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

WHERE: 55 M St, SE (at Half Street) in D.C.’s Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. Right above the Navy Yard Metro ballpark exit (green line), a block from Nationals Stadium.

MPAartfest this Sunday, Oct 5th

This coming Sunday, October 5th, one of the finest art shows in the area, the MPAartfest at the McLean Project for the Arts takes place. Please check out the MPA website (below) for details and be sure to check out this amazing art show.

On October 5th, 2008 MPAartfest will transform McLean Central Park into a lively landscape of mini art galleries showcasing and offering for sale the work of a diverse group of more than 40 juried artists.

Summer Shows Over.....Back in September

Yes, summer shows are over for now - but please feel free to contact me via email ( cherielester@prodigy.net ) for a studio appointment. The studio is located in Woodley Park, just off of Connecticut Ave in Washington, DC. I have lots of framed photo-prints and matted, original, abstract works to see.

Check back for info on 4 upcoming shows in mid-Sept/Oct in Adams Morgan, Richmond, McLean and Alexandria.

Art-O-Matic Marketplace this Saturday!

Thought I'd let you all know about the upcoming Art-O-Matic "Marketplace" happening this Saturday, June 7th, 2008 from 12pm-5pm. It'll be held on the 1st Floor in the Cabaret Stage area. I'll be showing a little bit of everything including photography, collage and new works.

In addition to the marketplace, there are 8 more floors of local works to be seen by almost 800 participants, live music, art-related workshops, fantastic city views and a bar/lounge on most floors. Art-O-Matic is a city-wide, non-juried event and is free and open to the public. It runs Wed-Sun from May 9th through June 15th (check their website for hours). It's located in the new, fast-growing NoMa area of DC and is located across from the New York Ave red line metro stop. More info can be found at http://www.artomatic.org/

Artomatic Pix - Under Construction on 4/30/08

Here are some pix of the 12th floor of the new Artomatic space. In one short week it will be transformed! BTW - the views of Washington, DC are amazing - day or night. And, the 12th floor (as high as you can go) is the best place to see them. I'm on the 12th floor, NE, D3. My space is the last picture shown (with the white wall) before I paint it "Le Chateau" which is Glidden's way of saying brown.

About Artomatic

Artomatic is a month-long multimedia arts event that draws together visual artists, musicians and performers and brings their work to the community without charge.

It was originally conceived as a way to break down the geographical and social segmentation of the Washington arts scene, to bring art directly to the public and to build cohesion among artists. The city's ongoing development in recent years has diffused the arts community by breaking up pockets of artist studios. In addition, local artists are sometimes overshadowed by national blockbuster shows and federal landmarks. Artomatic provides a forum for all of our area's artists to convene, perform and exhibit, strengthening the visibility, cohesion, and marketplace of Washington's arts community.

Artomatic began in 1999 in the historic Manhattan Laundry building. A dozen or so artists originally toured the empty building and within a month, three hundred and fifty artists had cleaned, lit, painted and colonized the 100,000 square feet. Over 20,000 visitors attended the first Artomatic over 6 weeks.From there, it grew organically, as buildings were made available to Artomatic by community developers. Music and performance of all kinds were added. In 2000, 665 artists exhibited and 200 performed at the old Hechinger’s building; more than 1000 artists and performers took part in 2002 at the Southwest Waterfront and even more in 2004 at the old Capitol Children’s Museum in Northeast.

The number of visitors has also more than doubled to over 40,000. Artomatic made a stop in Virginia for the first time in 2007, occupying a former Patent and Trademark space. It drew over 40,000 visitors.
