Many of you have asked if I have a website showing my recent mixed media works. For the time being I don't - but adding a quick photo posting of available works to this blog should be the next best thing. This is a selection of what's available but remember I have many more small and affordable pieces that aren't shown. Please feel free to email me for prices, dimensions or to arrange to see the piece in person. Or, come visit me between now and Christmas here:

New York City, July 2009

Inspiration found in everyday NYC. Streets, signs, objects, decay, beauty, design. These are a few photos taken over the past weekend on the lower East Side. Out of the many I took, I've edited them down to 22 images. I'll further abstract them to create a new collage/painting series inspired by NYC to be ready by the fall.

Where Will You Be on the Fourth of July? Lewes, Delaware of course!

** This show is one of my personal favorites so please come if you're in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach or Dewey Beach over the 4th of July. Here is more info:

Hosted in charming, coastal Lewes, Delaware (“The First Town in the First State”) St. Peter's Art Show has been a summertime highlight at the Delaware beaches since 1966. The show occurs on the first Saturday of July each year, drawing 140 fine artists and fine craftspeople from the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond. Wonderful paintings and photographs, exquisite jewelry, masterful carvings, beautiful ceramics and mixed media creations and much more can be found the in the exhibitors’ booths that surround St. Peter’s Square. The artists and craftspeople also donate works to the show’s raffle and silent auction in order to raise even more funds for deserving charities!

All this set in Lewes’s quaint downtown, with an array of specialty shops and restaurants to boot! The event is free and open to the public, so come rain, come shine, come one, come all: It’s a must-attend event for the Cape region!

Show Date: Saturday, July 4, 2009 (rain or shine) Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Sunday, May 31, Handmade Mart in Silver Spring

In the studio here in Woodley Park - tons of new work! Getting ready for my first indie art show next Sunday in Silver Spring, Maryland. I'm having sooo much fun working with recycled & re-purposed materials for mounting my collages, photographs and mixed media pieces. I've salvaged decorative wood substrate backings from old houses in Lewes and Washington - - and even from the old interior of Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. More info on the show can be found here:

Handmade Mart is May 31, 2009, 10am-5pm Ellsworth Drive (Between Fenton Ave. and Georgia Ave.) Downtown Silver Spring. Powered by the Pyramid Atlantic Art Center, the Handmade Mart will host more than 50 independent crafters for a unique shopping experience along the bustling Ellsworth Drive in Downtown Silver Spring. Along with an awesome array of craft vendors, the Handmade Mart will also feature a full day of live indie rock, and hands-on workshops at the Pyramid Atlantic Store. http://handmademart.blogspot.com/ for vendor interviews and a link to their facebook page. Hope to see you there!

100 Bowls of Compassion Gala at the National Building Museum

Join us Thursday, May 14th from 6-9:30 pm
at the National Building Museum for our
8th Annual 100 Bowls of Compassion Gala!
I'm happy to have 3 pieces in the silent art auction and even happier to contribute to this terrific event to help raise funds for Miriam's Kitchen. It's a beautiful event, please join us!

Tickets are $250 and will serve as your gateway to a night of gourmet cuisine, an open bar, live music and unique auction items.
If you've been to Bowls before, you may fondly remember the Lobster Purses, the Lamb Tagine or even the Black Eyed Pea Cakes. Lucky for you, these attendee favorites are making a comeback as we celebrate the Best of Bowls. Guests at this year's gala will feast on gourmet selections from each of the past 7 years, making this a can't miss event. View this year's menu!100 Bowls of Compassion is our largest source of revenue. In fact, we raised more than $300,000--nearly a third of our budget--last year! By leveraging in-kind donations and our dedicated volunteer base most effectively (the evening's meal is prepared and served by our volunteers, and much of the serving equipment and table linens are donated to us by Ridgewells), we are able to keep our costs for the event very low.

" Compassion is like the moon shining on one hundred bowls of water, so that there are one hundred moons, one in each bowl. This is not the moon’s design nor was it designed by anyone else. But for some strange reason there seems to be one hundred moons in one hundred bowls of water.”- Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Tibetan Meditation Master

Bridget's Bird Blog

On her very lovely bridbird blog, Bridget Farmer says the following:

"I've been looking into the myths and legends of crows and ravens for my new exhibition happening in September. I want to create a new body of work based on the positive beliefs about these birds rather than the ominous. I'm looking into subject matter such as two crows seen on your wedding day signifies an auspicious marriage due to the fact that crows mate for life and are very loyal. Also how the cry of the raven sounds like the latin word for 'tomorrow' which is 'cras' and therefore the romans interpreted it as an expression of eternal hope."

In addition to my 'Thinking Bird' above, learn more about the ravens and crows currently inspiring Bridget Farmer here: http://bridbird.blogspot.com/

My Favorite Thing About Washington, DC

.....the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin. Quite possibly, I've never experienced anything more beautiful than being surrounded by the puffy little pale pink blossoms surrounding the Jefferson Memorial. I've enjoyed both early morning sunrise picnics and late evening champagne celebrations on the banks of the Tidal Basin during peak blossom week. I look forward to it every year and plan to walk down there (from Woodley Park) several times over the next week. If you go - don't drive, it's impossible. Take metro - or cab it as close as you can get and walk the rest.

Thanks to Sara Christine for including my photo on her blog! It's pretty fantastic and you can read it here: http://sara-christine.blogspot.com/ Have a great time in NYC!
